Scallop Lake is located on the Raymond River which flows north into the Ogoki River after passing through Pickett Lake.
Scallop is, in fact, a part of a four small lake series .. Maddy - Lower Maddy - Austen and Scallop.
The water here is very dark and so are the walleye. Scallop is relatively shallow (but very cold) with spring fed waters and plenty of structure. Austen Lake is upstream and is deeper with warmer waters. Austen is accessed by a short portage (10 min. walk) and has two 14' boats with motors already positioned for your use. At the top end of Austen is another short portage (10 min) to Lower Maddy. There is a 12' Lund on the other side but this time you have to carry a small 5hp Merc across. To complete the string of lakes requires you to pull the boat through a small creek to big Maddy.
The Scallop cabin has in recent years seen many improvements: Solar electricity .. running water system with hot and cold water.. A large screened in porch and a shower .. Screened in fish cleaning house with running water and a sink .. It has a pine interior and of course a Motorola 2-way FM radio. The cabin also includes propane fridge .. stove .. a small chest freezer and a wood stove.
The boats are deluxe Lund 14's w/ Merc 6 hp. (2) plus a third Lund with 3 cross seats and two swivel seats.
